Smart Devices for People with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Abstract
The purposes of this study was to review and analyze existing empirical studies examining effects of smart devices for children, youth and adults with ASD. Total 18 studies which had published in 2001-2014 were analyzed and result indicates that 1) number of studies on this topic is continuously increasing, 2) most studies were conducted for school-aged students using single subject research designs, 3) smart devices were most frequently used in living area, for teaching and training daily living skills, communication, community participation, self-management, and social skills, and 4) specially designed Apps which were developed to teach specific skills were more frequently used than general Apps (e.g., video, schedule). Based on findings, recommendations and implications for further research and practices using smart devices for people with ASD were provided.
